Types of menstrual cycle disorders

All types of menstrual cycle disorders depend on the increase or decrease in the volume of menstrual blood, changes in cycle regularity, and pain during menstruation.

Therefore, the following types of menstrual disorders can be identified:

  • hypomenstrual syndrome: a decrease in menstruation due to external causes.
  • oligomenorrhea: a short duration (2 days) of menstruation.
  • amenorrhea: a period when the menstrual cycle is absent for six months.
  • opsomenorrhea: a disorder in which the interval between cycles is more than 5-8 weeks.
  • hypomenorrhea: a low volume of blood during menstruation.
  • spaniomennorrhea: menstruation occurs only 2-4 times a year.

The next deviation is menorragia, which manifests as abundant discharge. It has different forms:

  • hypermenorrhea: a large volume of blood loss within one menstrual cycle.
  • proyomenorrhea: menstruation occurs frequently, approximately every two weeks.
  • polymenorrhea: prolonged and abundant amount of discharge during menstruation.

Among other types of deviations, the following are encountered:

  • metrorrhagia: bleeding that occurs outside the menstrual cycle and without the shedding of the endometrium.
  • algomenorrhea: menstruation accompanied by pain.
  • intermenstrual bleeding: bleeding outside the menstrual cycle.
  • postmenopausal bleeding: blood loss in women of advanced age, occurring one year or more after menopause.
